Fair Winds 5k Race

May 15-22, 2021

This spring, Waring School will be holding the Fair Winds 5k race in concert with our traditional end-of-year 5k “Run Walk Crawl” event for students. This special virtual race, to be held May 15-22, will be complete with race bibs, leaderboard, tee shirts and a door prize. 

The Fair Winds 5k will be held in honor of our esteemed veteran faculty member and Science Department Chair, John Wigglesworth. John, who is also a licensed Sea Captain, has been teaching math and science at Waring for 23 years. As a mariner and avid conservationist, he has made a tremendous impact on our students and on our community. A few years ago, John was granted leave to take a research voyage to study the impacts of climate change on wildlife populations and sea ice in the Beaufort Sea. In addition to teaching earth science at Waring, John has been active in involving our students in marine conservation efforts, collaborating with organizations like Maritime Gloucester and the Lowell Boat Company. We are delighted to honor John and wish him fair winds and following seas as he begins his next adventure.
