Round of Golf for 12 at Turner Hill

This Great Gathering is open to 12 adults

The cost is $150 per person

Round of golf for 12 guests at Turner Hill Country Club in Ipswich. Hit the links with Waring parents Joe Jutras, Ann Marie Viglione and Craig and Sunny Douglas on Saturday, May 20 on this challenging 18 hole course. Price includes drinks at the clubhouse after the round. 

The centerpiece of the Golf Club at Turner Hill is the course itself. In 2005, Travel + Leisure Golf ranked Turner Hill as “One of the 10 Best New Private Courses in the U.S.” Spanning 7,021 yards, this award-winning, 18-hole championship course.

The par 72 course preserves and promotes the area’s breathtaking, natural surroundings offering a balance of dramatic and challenging play. Featuring a practice facility, spectacular vista and elevation changes, wide fairways, generous green complexes and sparkling white bunkers throughout the century-old landscape, the Hurdzan/Fry masterpiece is sure to impress with its playability and beauty. Sunset Cruise on the Schooner Ardelle

This Great Gathering is only open to 6 more adults

The cost is $60 per person

Come join us for a two hour sunset sail on the Schooner Ardelle, an authentic, indigenous, traditionally built schooner that is moored in Gloucester. Based at the Maritme Center, the Ardelle was handbuilt by Harold Burnham of Burnham Boat Builders and his neighbors in Essex in 2010 and 2011 using locally sourced wood. The trip will feature delicious seafood and vegetarian hors d’oeuvres specially created for this event by alum parent Stephanie Bichet.

This sail will be an experience to remember! The ship’s capacity is 35, and only 6 seats remain! Tickets are offered at $60 each and include food, beverage, and a beautiful cruise with a handful of your Waring friends. Sail takes place on May 21, 2017 subject to change, based on weather. A Taste of Manhattans

Place: Gloucester, MA

This Great Gathering is open to 20 adults

The cost is $45 per person

Sometimes described as “the boss of all drinks,” the Manhattan is a classic cocktail, usually made with Whiskey, Bourbon, or Rye. Add some sweet Vermouth, a splash of bitters and a cherry, and you have the perfect libation to enjoy on an early summer evening. Join co-hosts Jim Watras, and alum parents Charlie Crowley and Claire Sanford on Saturday, June 3, from 5:30-7:30 pm, for “A Taste of Manhattans,” a sophisticated cocktail hour of sipping, snacking and fine conversation. 

Enjoy your drinks with an abundance of delicious hors d’oeuvres at Charlie and Claire’s home in West Gloucester overlooking the Annisquam River. Watch the boats go by as the sun goes down while sipping a cool, sumptuous Manhattan. No matter whether you prefer whiskey or rye or feel ‘it’s all about the cherries’, just put yourself in the hands of Jim and Charlie who will be mixing their magic for an unforgettable evening!


Competition Barbecue Cook Out

This Great Gathering is open to 12 adults

The cost is $65 per person 

This Great Gathering is all about Competition Barbecue. The hosts are two Kansas City Barbecue Society Certified Competition BBQ Judges who will prepare an authentic barbecue dinner at their ocean-side family home in Rockport, MA. They will be using Competition BBQ recipes, techniques, equipment and ingredients to prepare mouth watering pork ribs, pulled pork (or beef brisket), Memphis style cole slaw and corn bread. There will also be beer, wine, seasonal appetizers, other side dishes and dessert. There will be great food, comfortable surroundings and the best view on the North Shore. 

Sailing and Lobster Bake on Jewel Island

This Great Gathering is open to 6 adults

The cost is $175 per person

Six lucky members of the Waring Community will have this experience by signing up for this exclusive Great Gathering Adventure. Join the Goudey/McGavern family on their 42’ racing sloop, the Zubenelgenubi, from Bailey Island, ME, to the lovely Jewel Island (about a 2-4 hour sail, depending on wind conditions). Jewel Island is one of Casco Bay’s outermost Islands. It’s 221 acres are uninhabited and home to the remains of World War I and World War II military installations that are exciting to explore. We will anchor in the protected harbor for the night and set up camp at the sandy beach “Punch Bowl” campsite at the north eastern tip of the island. A comfortable campsite will already be set up and we will provide a lobster dinner with all the trimmings. The next day we will sail back to Bailey Island. Available any two days of the summer, though must be worked out in advance and accommodate weather predictions.

Learn the art of flower arranging! Friday, September 29 from 1:00 until 3:00pm. Expert flower arranging instruction, tips and tricks for creating artful, eye-catching arrangements with beautiful species from local gardens. Enjoy prosecco, iced tea, and tea sandwiches while creating your centerpiece with seasonal flowers and greens. Then take your creation home with you! 

Heron Pond Farm to Table Tasting Supper

The cost is $75 per person

Come join Andre and Anna Cantelmo, owners of Heron Pond Farm in South Hampton, NH, and parents of Core student, Belle Leonard, and fellow Waring parents, William Nourse and Frances McLaughlin, parents of Core student, Georgia Nourse, for a relaxing and delicious harvest-time supper and sunset at the Heron Pond farm stand – right at the edge of the fields!  Sixteen guests will be treated to a three course meal including a first course tomato tasting, a locally-sourced main course, and a dessert course featuring Bell and Goose Cheese Co. cheeses, hand-made by Anna Cantelmo herself--and wine sourced from Grand Trunk in Newburyport! 

This event is adults only. This event has a set menu that will feature a variety of foods that may not meet the needs of those with dietary restrictions. Rain or shine. Shoes that are appropriate for a walk through the fields are recommended. 


Waterfront Wine Tour

What’s better than a walk on Boston’s waterfront on a fall day? Hmm let’s see, if there is wine involved, of course!  Boston’s waterfront is bustling with hot new restaurants, hot new chefs, and of course WINE! Join us for a walk in The Seaport District as we pop in and out of restaurants trying some delicious wine and food. We’ll learn how to taste, pour and pair wine on a fun, educational guided tour.

This truly great gathering includes six wines paired with food, three upscale Boston locations and beautiful, scenic views of The Seaport. The tour spans approximately one mile of the waterfront, so wear your walking shoes and be prepared to go rain or shine.  


Live Music Party in Newburyport

Live Music Party in Newburyport back by popular demand! A late afternoon event at Michael’s Harborside in Newburyport on October 14 from 5pm-8pm with wine and beer, light snacks and live rock ‘n roll music by Angry Scot (band members include Waring parents Craig and Sunny Douglas.) While you are enjoying the beer and the music, catch up on all the adventures students experienced during camping trip with up to 99 other Waring parents.

Italian Renaissance Salon

You don’t have to be an artist to get in touch with your creative side. You will be guided by an experienced teaching artist through a variety of exciting and meaningful arts processes that lay the foundation for your own artistic vocabulary. Using a variety of methods involving drawing, painting, and mixed media you will explore how you see and experience the world. Facilitated Renaissance Art Salon style, we will enjoy Italian food, drink, and discussions about art as we explore the nature of creativity and the art of Raphael, Botticelli, Gentileschi, Michelangelo, Anguissola, and Leonardo da Vinci. 

Improv & Vodka: Anything Can Happen

Featuring Waring’s own Tim Bakland, Pavel Jirka and Joshua Scott-Fishburn cranking out Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Neil Young and all of your favorite grunge tunes! Surprise musical guests will appear – an evening of grunge you will not want to miss!
